PARTNERS -- A Tasteful Cracker and a Progressive Company
The progressive foundation for Partners Crackers actually began years ago. A simple fortune cookie told the fate of a young girl. Marian Harris had eagerly opened it to read: “You will have a successful career in the food business”. She didn’t understand the message at the time, but she does now. In a big way.
Marian, the initial force behind Partners, always enjoyed baking and creating. At 8, she followed a recipe for a cake that turned out so exceptionally well that her mom thought she had bought it at the store. Her love of food and baking continued.
In 1971, Ms. Harris recognized a need in downtown Seattle for a restaurant that featured wholesome, quality food. Marian was a pioneer in those early days of women branching out. At the time, women, for the most part, did not work outside of the home. However, this was evolving and Marian was a part of the change. Overcoming gender bias, Marian partnered with 2 friends and The Bakery at Pioneer Square was born. Everything was hand made, fresh and scrumptious. Patrons loved the food, including homemade soups, which were all created by Marian. Hand baked crackers were added to complement the soups and people soon began requesting to buy them to take home. After several years, she bought out her partners, continued running that restaurant and added another. 17 years later, finally tiring of the hectic pace and long hours, the restaurants were sold.
Marian’s ‘retirement’ didn’t last long and her creative itch took over. She began experimenting with her cracker recipes. Receiving rave reviews by friends and family, Marian decided to pursue the cracker business. She bagged up samples, wrote up a price sheet and visited 8 prospective customers. 7 of the 8 ordered immediately, and the eighth one called a short time later. Partners Crackers had officially begun. With the assistance of her children, Greg Maestretti and Cara Figgins, the business has blossomed into a success story.
Partners now employs over 80 people, coming from 19 different countries working together on the core value of creating delicious, authentic food with all natural ingredients, no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors and working with the community to be responsible. Several years ago, Partners became involved with Green Initiatives. Partners uses 100% EPA green power, recycles over 95% material production and 100% of food waste goes to a chicken feed manufacturer.
